Over the years I’ve sometimes come across people who want to lead but don’t want to be led.
They desire to be over people but are unwilling to be under another’s leadership themselves.
They want to disciple others but don’t want to be disciples.
When Jesus called his early disciples he said to them ‘Follow me’.
It was in the process of following Jesus that their characters would be moulded, servanthood developed and lives prepared for leadership.
The call has not changed throughout the generations. Our first call is to follow him. We then become prepared to lead others.
The best leaders are always the best followers.
And if we are not willing to be under someone then we are not ready to be over someone.
Let’s be the best followers and disciples so we can be the best leaders, ready to disciple those God entrusts to us.
